SBS Construction and SMS are excited to take part and provide sponsorship in the upcoming Boerne 0.5k “run” to benefit Blessings In A Backpack!
The Boerne 0.5k is a tongue-in-cheek event that will lampoon the typical 5k, all while raising money for a great cause. Both SBS and SMS are contributing as “Loafers”. All proceeds from the, um, “race” will go to Blessings in a Backpack, a local non-profit organization that provides food for needy children in the Boerne area.
Blessings in a Backpack serves children living in poverty who receive their breakfast and lunch during the week through the federal meal program at school but often go hungry on the weekends. The BIB program provides food to these children each Friday for the weekend. In addition to providing breakfast, lunch and two snacks for both Saturday and Sunday, they also provide a piece of fresh fruit each week, as well as two cartons of shelf-stable chocolate milk.
This program not only helps to alleviate childhood hunger, but children served by BIB nationwide have been shown to have improved attendance, behavior, reading skills, and test scores in school.
